I just wanted to touch base with Phoenix Computer Specialists to let them know that I’d noticed an incredible change in the speed of my e-mail processing. A search that used to take 30-60+ seconds to finish, is now taking 5-10 seconds. (I actually told PCS I wondered if they had somehow managed to delete a good deal of my messages!). Apparently the boost in speed is due to the new server horsepower. I’ve already been able to put the new speed to good use when meeting w/people. As someone who does several daily searches through e-mail archives, this is like Christmas come early. Thanks for all of the work you’ve coordinated in updating our equipment.

Before You Move Your Healthcare Organization to the Cloud

healthcare IT supportPeople who advocate cloud computing don’t often stop to consider that not everyone will derive exactly to same benefits from cloud solutions.  This is especially true for health care organizations. Large hospitals and medical centers won’t interact with the cloud in quite the same way as small clinics and private practices. Still, adopting cloud solutions is increasingly becoming a necessity for all industries, including health care.

All health care organizations are advised to make the move to cloud a gradual, step-by-step process that allows employees time to adjust in between each successive step. Some things to consider before making the transition to the cloud include:

  • Knowledge – Make sure that you know as much as you can about cloud computing and how and in what ways it can benefit your particular health care facility. Learn as much as you can about each cloud solution and try to determine which solution or combination of solutions would work best. Also know what should never be migrated to the cloud.
  • Only a custom solution will do – While many managed IT services (MSPs) companies offer bundled services for one monthly fee, beware of MSPs that claim that one solution will work just as well for your health care organization as it does for another. All businesses, even businesses in the same industry, are unique and have unique needs. Only talk with MSPs that acknowledge your company’s unique needs and recommend tailor-made solutions.
  • Determine what you need – What kind of services does your health care facility need? What kind of backup and data recovery or business continuity plan would work best? What kind of training will your staff need to ensure that each staff member knows what to do in the event of a disaster?
  • Develop a strategy – You and your employees need to know how your health care organization will migrate to the cloud. Devise a strategy that will help everyone to easily understand what changes will happen, when they will happen and how they will affect the way everyone conducts business. Even have a plan to handle how changes will affect patients.
  • Stop putting it off – Although it’s unwise to rush right in and start making changes, putting off taking those first steps toward the cloud could cause you costly difficulties in the future. It’s a good idea to start educating yourself about the cloud and investigating possible cloud service options now.

Many health care professionals are still reluctant to adopt cloud solutions in their businesses because they doubt its effectiveness and reliability. At some point, they will have to overcome the fears that are causing them to hesitate. The cloud may not be the right answer for all files or applications, but it’s certainly a useful environment that is fast becoming everyone’s preferred place to do business.

Our team of healthcare IT professionals are ready to help you with any questions you may have about the cloud and how it impacts your healthcare organization.  Call us today to book a no cost review of your healthcare IT needs.
